Common questions
How does the matcher decide which cities to recommend?
We score every city we have local data for on five things: affordability against your income and savings, regulation friendliness at the state level, local builder availability, climate fit, and tiny-home-friendly communities nearby. The weighting favors affordability and regulation because those are the two things most likely to make a city impossible vs. possible.
Where do the cost estimates come from?
Per-city cost data comes from our researched local content — typical builder pricing, median rent, median home price, and parking costs. Every city shows when its data was last researched. Numbers are estimates: confirm with a builder and a lender before committing.
Why are some cities missing?
We only show cities where we have enough verified local data to give an honest estimate. As we keep researching, more cities appear in your results. If a city you care about is missing, you can usually browse its state page directly.
Will my information be saved?
Your inputs are kept in your browser by default and used only to compute matches. We only save your email if you explicitly ask us to send your matches by email — that goes into our lead system so we can follow up with relevant info.
Does the recommender work for THOWs and foundation homes?
Both. Pick "THOW," "Foundation," or "Either" in the form. The financial drilldown projects costs for each scenario so you can compare them side-by-side over 5, 10, 20, or 30 years.
